What is the AODA?<\/h2>\n

The AODA is the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005<\/em>. The legislation was created in recognition that persons with disabilities experience many barriers in daily life. The legislation seeks to make Ontario more accessible. The accompanying Integrated Accessibility Standards Regulation<\/em> (IASR) sets out five standards that organizations should focus on to prevent and remove barriers for people with disabilities.<\/p>\n

The five standards are:<\/p>\n

  1. Information and communications;<\/li>\n
  2. Employment;<\/li>\n
  3. Transportation;<\/li>\n
  4. Design of public spaces or built environment; and<\/li>\n
  5. Customer service.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Within each of these AODA standards, there are different expectations, such as policy and training requirements.<\/p>\n

    What is an accessible employment policy?<\/h2>\n

    An accessible employment policy is a document that sets out an organization\u2019s expectations and strategies to ensure accessibility throughout the course of employment. For the most part, and AODA policy maps out what the employer intends to do to reduce accessibility barriers.<\/p>\n
