With the prevalence of e-mails and hybrid work setups, it\u2019s become increasingly easy to be \u201calways on.\u201d Employees can just \u201ctake a quick look\u201d at e-mails after dinner or over the weekend and \u201cjust send one thing off\u201d at any time of day. Some employers are coming to expect this more and more. However, this \u201calways on\u201d culture has been linked to greater rates of anxiety, depression, and burnout. It can also affect the productivity and engagement of these employees. Ultimately, the ability to disconnect from work is becoming increasingly important, and in some jurisdictions like Ontario, for employers with 25 or more employees, it\u2019s now a requirement to have a disconnecting from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.citationcanada.com\/hr-software\/policy-manuals-in-minutes\/\">work policy<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-what-is-a-disconnecting-from-work-policy\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What is a disconnecting from work policy?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><!-- \/wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p>A disconnecting from work policy sets out the company\u2019s expectations regarding the boundaries between \u201cwork time\u201d and \u201cnon-work time.\u201d Often these policies specify that an employee is entitled, encouraged, or expected to disconnect from work outside their regular working hours without any penalty.
