What is a termination notice period?<\/h2>\n

When terminating an employee\u2019s contract, employment legislation across the country\u00a0<\/em>requires employers to provide a minimum period before the termination, where either you provide the employee notice that they will be terminated on a certain day, or provide them pay in lieu of notice for the time between when the notice is provided and the termination date, allowing them to cease work immediately. This is what is commonly referred to as the termination notice period. The required length of the notice period varies by jurisdiction, but typically when an employee reaches a given threshold of years of employment, they are entitled to additional notice time, up to a specified maximum weeks of notice.<\/p>\n
