They must have been employed for 30 calendar days before the statutory holiday and either have earned a wage on at least 15 of those days or worked under an averaging agreement within those 30 days.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If an employee does not qualify for statutory holiday pay, they should be paid their regular wage for all hours worked on a holiday.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To determine whether special rules apply, refer to British Columbia\u2019s<em> <\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/www2.gov.bc.ca\/gov\/content\/employment-business\/employment-standards-advice\/employment-standards\/statutory-holidays\/qualify-for-statutory-holiday-pay\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>Employment Standards Regulation<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-q-how-do-you-calculate-statutory-holiday-pay-in-british-columbia\">Q. <strong>How do you calculate statutory holiday pay in British Columbia?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Employees who get the day off work on a statutory holiday must be paid their average daily wage for that day. You can calculate the average daily wage by dividing the total wages paid or payable to the employee (excluding overtime) in the 30-day period before the holiday by the number of days the employee worked or earned wages in that period.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Employees are entitled to holiday pay regardless of whether the statutory holiday falls on the employee\u2019s regularly scheduled day off from work. If an employee\u2019s vacation coincides with a statutory holiday, the employee observes the statutory holiday, and it does not count as a vacation day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Employees who work on a statutory holiday are paid 1.5 times their regular wages for all hours worked on the holiday up to 12 hours, and double their regular wages for any time worked over 12 hours. Employees are entitled to the same rights and benefits on the substitute holiday as a normal statutory holiday.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-q-can-employers-require-employees-to-work-on-a-stat-holiday-in-bc\">Q. <strong>Can employers require employees to work on a stat holiday in BC?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Yes, you may require employees to work on a holiday.
